With extensive experience in single and multi-family residential, hospitality, and commercial design, Bill focuses on providing clients with exceptional service through an emphasis on design elegance, technical expertise, and sustainability. Whereas his approach to design is founded in appropriateness rather than on architectural style, Bill believes that every project must be sensitive and appropriate to site and context yet reflect the modern world we live in.

Bill is the Managing Operations Partner with the firm. His responsibilities include project management, working document production, project permitting, and firm management.

Prior to co-founding Vandeventer + Carlander Architects, Bill was project architect at the Singleton Associates where his project experience included hotel and ski resort design. Prior to graduate school, Bill interned in Charlottesville, Virginia at VMDO Architects where he worked on numerous high school and college projects.

Bill recently completed two terms serving on a City of Seattle Design Review Board. He previously served as Chair of the Capitol Hill Planning Committee and was a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee for Seattle Central Community College.

Born and raised in Virginia, Bill moved to Seattle in 1988. He received his Master of Architecture degree from Yale University where he was awarded the Henry Adams Certificate for Excellence in Architecture. Previously Bill attended the University of Virginia where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree.
